Tropical Storm Irene

Hurricane Irene was downgraded to a tropical storm when it swept through Vermont on August 28, 2011. But, heavy rainfall from the storm collected on the east side of the Green Mountains causing flash flooding and sending tributaries to the Connecticut river over their banks. It was one of the worst periods of flooding in the state's history.
